Brent Freeman Cup Recap: Zapa FC Rallies To Beat Academia Gullit

LA MIRADA, CA (May 18, 2026) - Zapa FC is ascending.

Miguel Grajeda scored twice in the first half for Zapa FC in a 4-2 victory over Academia Gullit to capture the SoCal Premier League Brent Freeman Friendship Cup at Al Barbour Field on the campus of Biola University on Sunday, May 17.

Promoted after winning SoCal Premier League 2nd Division, Grajeda got Zapa FC level after Academia Gullit’s Anthony Castro scored twice in the first 10 minutes.

Matthew Mendoza got the go-ahead goal in the 61st minute, and Willliam Hernandez tacked on an insurance goal in the final 5 minutes as Zapa FC claimed its first cup trophy.

It was the first appearance in the Brent Freeman Cup final for Academia Gullit, which is currently in third place SoCal Premier League's 1st Division North with an 5-1-3 record.
