Forza OC Nets Late Winner To Claim Brent Freeman Cup
LA MIRADA, CA (June 7, 2025) - Forza OC’s first season will prove to be historic for the club.
Joseph Vasquez scored the late match-winner as Forza OC came from behind to defeat FC Cypress 2-1 to capture the SoCal Premier League Brent Freeman Cup at Al Barbour Field on the campus of Biola University on Saturday, June 7.
“The boys were pressing all second half, and we knew that (the goal) was coming. We just had to keep going,” Forza OC administrator Carmen Zavala said. “It means so much to the players. They’ve worked so hard.”
It’s the trophy earned for Forza OC’s men’s team, which just completed its first season in the SoCal Premier League Division Two.
“For their first year, to win a trophy I think it sets the bar really high,” Zavala said.
Lorenzo Macias bullied his way into scoring position before tapping the ball across the line FC Cypress, playing in its second Brent Freeman Cup Final in three years, grabbed a lead in the 33rd minute.
Mark Rochlitz notched the equalizer for Forza OC in the 45th minute, sneaking in behind FC Cypress defense to head in the long ball just before halftime.
Vasquez saved the match from overtime, placing a left-footed shot inside the far post in the 89th minute to seal the win for Forza OC.
